What does EU conversion include?

We prepare the car to meet the homologation requirements. The front headlights usually do not need changing.

  • Rear turn signals

Converted so they light amber, not red, and work separately from the brake lights.

  • Rear fog light

Mandatory. Usually already there – it may only need activating or wiring. If not, we fit one and add a switch.

  • Side turn repeaters

On the wings or the mirrors. If missing, we fit them.

  • Parking lights

Needed front and rear. Amber side markers are allowed, but we can switch them off on request.

  • Speedometer in km/h

A dual mph and km/h speedometer is fine.

  • Coding

Optional but useful: updated EU maps, traffic sign recognition, km/h instead of mph, °C and litres, menu language, EU radio frequencies.

Which cars do you code?

We code BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Jeep and other American brands, such as Ford and RAM. For other models, write to us.

The coding itself takes 1–2 days, depending on the technician’s availability.

BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi EU conversion

The US version often uses the same lights as the European car, so the rear fog light is usually already there: sometimes it works straight away, sometimes it only needs activating, and sometimes a dedicated wire has to be run to it.

Coding updates the EU maps, switches on traffic sign recognition, changes mph to km/h and sets the radio to EU frequencies.

Jeep, Ford and RAM EU conversion

Cars built by US manufacturers purely for the US market may have no rear fog light at all – then we fit an aftermarket one with its own extra switch. If there are no side repeaters on the wings, we fit those too.

Everything is done to the homologation requirements. With this equipment, cars pass the TÜV in Germany and in other EU countries.

Frequently asked questions

What is EU conversion of a US car?

EU conversion brings a US-spec car up to EU requirements. Most often the rear turn signals are converted to light amber, not red. After the conversion come the homologation, the roadworthiness test and the registration in Lithuania.

Are EU conversion and homologation the same thing?

No. EU conversion is the work that brings the car up to EU requirements. Homologation is the official assessment of whether the car meets EU requirements, done before registration.

What has to be changed on a US car?

Most often the rear turn signals: they must be amber, not red. The car also needs a rear fog light, side turn repeaters on the wings or mirrors, parking lights front and rear, and a speedometer in km/h (a dual mph and km/h speedometer is fine). If the car has no rear fog light or side repeaters, we fit them. Amber side markers on the bumpers or the sides of the lights are allowed, but many owners want the car to look as European as possible, so we can switch them off. All requirements: Registration and homologation.

Does a US car have a rear fog light?

Usually yes, because the same lights are used as on the European version. Sometimes the fog light works straight away, sometimes it only needs activating, and sometimes a dedicated wire has to be run to it. Cars built by US manufacturers purely for the US market may have no fog light at all – then we fit an aftermarket one with its own extra switch. We also fit side repeaters on the wings if the car has none. Everything is done to the homologation requirements. With this equipment, cars pass the TÜV in Germany and in other EU countries.

How long does EU conversion take?

Light conversion usually takes 1–2 weeks. The coding itself takes 1–2 days, depending on the technician’s availability. Once the car is prepared, the homologation, roadworthiness test and registration usually take 1 working day.

How much does EU conversion cost?

EU conversion costs from €450. The final price depends on the car model and the work needed – send us the VIN and we will reply.

Can I order only the light conversion?

Yes. If you have done the rest yourself, you can order only the light conversion, only the coding, or only the homologation and registration.

Do I need to buy European lights?

No. We convert the US lights to EU requirements; there is no need to buy original EU lights.

Do the front headlights have to be changed?

Usually not: the front headlights are normally fine. Amber front side markers are also fine, as long as the car has separate parking lights.

Do you code BMW, Mercedes and Audi?

Yes. We code BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Jeep and other American brands, such as Ford and RAM. For other models, write to us.

Do I have to change mph to km/h?

For registration, a speedometer in km/h is enough – a dual mph and km/h speedometer is fine. Coding is optional but useful: afterwards the EU maps are updated, traffic sign recognition works, mph is removed completely, temperature shows in °C and fuel in litres, the menu language can be changed and the radio is set to EU frequencies.

Do you do EU conversion for cars in Kaunas, Klaipėda or Šiauliai?

We are based in Vilnius and do the work there. We can collect the car, or just the lights, from Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai or another Lithuanian city; the price for collection is on request.
