Questions

The ones we are actually asked. If yours is not here, the chat on the front page will get you a straight answer.

What does Carwise charge?

5% of the vehicle price, minimum €1,500 in Europe or $1,500 on US auctions. Transport is quoted separately — €750 from Germany, other countries on request. Transport-only or purchase-only work is covered by neither fee: rate on request.

Do I still pay customs duty on a car from the USA?

Not if it was built there. Since 1 July 2026 the EU applies 0% duty to US-origin vehicles under Regulation (EU) 2026/1455, which runs to 31 December 2029 and can be suspended earlier. Cars built elsewhere still pay 10% of CIF. Lithuanian VAT at 21% applies either way.

Can I reclaim the VAT?

Import VAT on passenger cars is generally not reclaimable in Lithuania, even by VAT-registered businesses. The exceptions are fully electric and plug-in hybrids up to €50,000 including VAT, N1 commercial vehicles such as most American pickups, and cars bought for resale.

How do the payments work?

They differ by route. Sourcing in Europe: the first shortlist is free, then €200 when you decide to continue, then the whole remaining balance before we buy. USA auctions: a €2,000 refundable security deposit before the first auction, then the invoices within one business day of winning.

Are you the seller or my agent?

Depends on the route, and it matters. Sourcing in Europe, we are the seller — we buy the car in our own name and you get twelve months of liability against us. On USA auctions we are your agent — the car is bought in your name and title passes directly to you.

How long does it take?

Europe: one to three weeks to find and inspect, then three to ten days transport. USA: nine to sixteen weeks from winning the auction to plates.

Can you inspect a car I found myself?

Yes, and it is one of the most common things we do. A remote evaluation is €50 including the carVertical report. A physical inspection is from €250, in Germany and Lithuania. No obligation to buy through us afterwards.

Is a salvage-title car worth buying?

Sometimes. It means an insurer declared a total loss, not that the car is unroadworthy, and many are repaired properly and registered here every year. The risk is not the damage you can see — it is the repair quality you cannot. We evaluate repairability and final cost before recommending any lot.
